XTREME ZERO WASTE: Move over, Zero Waste!
The Youth of the Earth Festival was the trial run of a new initiative called Xtreme Zero Waste (XZW), which is funded in part by a grant from Boulder County. The goal? Not just to recycle and compost as much trash as possible, but to cut down the amount of waste generated altogether.
And the results?? XTREMEly Awesome!!
Out of 63 pounds of solid waste, 38 pounds was compost, 20 was recyclables, and only 5 POUNDS went to the landfill!
Our entry surveys told us that over 50% of our exhibitors and attendees brought their own (reusable) water bottles, and over 50% knew what Xtreme Zero Waste is! We also used 200 pounds of rescued food and recycled over 200 t-shirts into our event t-shirts! Great job, everybody!
