About Sustainable Resilient Longmont
Sustainable Resilient Longmont (SRL) is a nonprofit in Longmont, Colorado working to make Longmont a more sustainable, thriving City. We carry out our mission with three program areas: Renewable Energy, Zero Waste and Earth Day.
Renewable Energy
The Renewable Energy program achieved remarkable success in its first year. After launching in summer of 2017, the group’s efforts led to a commitment from Longmont City Council for a goal of 100% renewable energy by 2030. Now, this group is working with the community, City, and Platte River Power Authority to implement Longmont’s 100% renewable energy goal.
Zero Waste
SRL’s Zero Waste program educates and advocates for reducing trash headed to our landfills. The committee supported Longmont launching a curbside composting program in 2017. In 2019, the committee has several educational events planned, including a community clean up day.
Earth Day
SRL has organized the Longmont Earth Day Celebration since 2015. This annual program educates children and families about the importance of environmental conservation. With 900 attendees last year, the 2019 event aims to reach even more Longmont families with environmental education booths from twenty local groups, programming and performances to celebrate the earth. This year, SRL is also organizing an adult-focused Earth Day evening on April 18th, featuring talks by climate scientists, and local climate and sustainability leaders.
Program Coordinator Position
SRL is taking the exciting step of hiring it’s first staff position. The Program Coordinator will play an active role to coordinate events and communications related to each program area. The below is a summary of duties and expectations. Position reports to the chair and vice chair of the SRL board.

The below is a summary of duties and expectations. Position reports to the chair and vice chair of the SRL board.
Areas of Responsibility:
Programs (30%)
- Provide support to three program committees, including Renewable Energy, Zero Waste and Earth Day. This may include attending committee meetings, coordinating events, assisting with administrative duties such as reserving meeting space and printing meeting materials, and supporting committee chairs as needed.
- Provide support to the SRL Board. This may include attending the monthly board meetings, collecting reports from committee chairs, and administrative duties such as booking meeting space and printing meeting materials.
- Support a strong implementation of the Longmont Sustainability Plan (SP.) This may include attending quarterly City of Longmont Sustainability Coalition meetings, as well as the Sustainability Education & Outreach committee meetings with City Sustainability Office, and acting as a liaison with the board and ongoing SP activities.
- Assist with planning and executing the Longmont Sustainability Awards
- Coordinate volunteers and marketing materials for four Longmont Farmers’ Markets (April- Oct.)
- Assist the board with planning the Sustainability Candidate Forum
- Assist with committee events, including logistics, program coordination and planning
- Compile, edit and send monthly e-newsletter.
- Update website weekly or more often as needed.
- Manage social media accounts to promote events, committee work, etc. (Facebook and Twitter.)
- Coordinate with graphic designer to organize organization events, including Earth Day, annual fundraiser, sustainability candidate forum, and other events organized by the program committees.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency with computers and software (e.g., Microsoft Office products and Google Drive)
- Marketing and/or communications skills, including event promotion, email newsletters, social media and website management
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Board of Directors, committee chairs, volunteers, event venue staff, and vendors.
- Commitment to the mission of Sustainable Resilient Longmont
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience
- Preferred: Experience with nonprofits and/or environmental issues
- Preferred: Experience with event planning and volunteer coordination

Compensation/Benefits:
- Contract position with an estimated 6-7 hours per week. Flexible work hours, including occasional nights and weekends.
- This position will work remotely from home.
- Pay range: $20-25 per hour, commensurate with experience.
