An art exchange between students in Boulder and students in Guatemala for the purpose of educating our community about how youth perceive the world around them. We hope to inspire people to learn about the environment, what they can do to help it, and why they should help it by exemplifying youth interpretations (which will act as a motivation for others to change the world)!

3. Vickers Boys & Girls Club: Energy Star Heroes
Denver, Colorado
A project of the Torch Club leadership program where kids learn and teach about energy conservation. Sixth-grade club members teach kids to how measure the wattage of incandescent, LED and compact fluorescent light bulbs. The kids also made a new game, wrote and performed skits and made a music video to encourage saving energy.

4. New Vista High School Earth Task Force: Recycle Relay
Boulder, Colorado BVSD
The Earth Task Force (ETF) is a Cottonwood Institute-supported program at New Vista High School in Boulder, CO designed to give students an opportunity to take the lead to implement sustainability initiatives at their school. ETF completes a wide variety of projects throughout the year, such as Local Lunch, Trip Tracker, Bring Your Own Mug Day and Recycle Relay. For our booth we will be focusing on Recycle Relay. We've already completed this project, and everyone in ETF participated and successfully educated our community about how to compost and recycle in New Vista.

We want to teach other kids how important honey bees are. We are going to have a game to ID bees and wasps. We are going to have a beekeeping suit and smoker that kids can try on. We are going to have trivia questions about honey bees. We are going to have an observation hive if the weather is warm enough.

Our project utilizes abandoned materials to create self sustaining planters to propagate greener homes. Our interactive booth will provide an engaging and informative experience in creating a unique planter to make any space more lively.

12. New Vista High School Robotics Team: Wind Turbine Assembly Robots

Students from New Vista built a robot that builds a wind turbine to compete in the Rocky Mountain BEST competition. The competition is for middle and high school students to build a robot, with each team starting from an identical set of robot building materials. The club will demonstrate their robot at the festival on a 12' x 6' triangular game board.

We are partnering with one of the directors of 1-800-Got-Junk to re-purpose various kinds of junk and "trash" into unique and individualized works of art. The 3rd graders in our class will learn about recycling vs. re-purposing and enjoy the creative process of using a wide variety of materials to create a piece of art of their own design. This will be open-ended free exploration of how to re-purpose items that would otherwise enter a landfill. Our goal is to change the way our kids think about "junk", better understand the process of creation and self-expression, in addition to getting them thinking about their own habits and how that might affect the world around them.

We will demonstrate how to make flowers from the book's pages. We will also discuss what other types of items you can make out of damaged books and show how even books that are no longer readable can have a whole new life as decorative and useful items.

Storycamp: Follow the Wonder, Build the world! Storycamp is puppetry, circus, storytelling, farming and carpentry wrapped in adventure! Child solve problems, process creatively and learn to build the worlds they imagine. We follow their wonder, listen to their stories and help bring them to life for the community to experience.

16. Patchwork School: Humane Education & Endangered Animals

The K-12 students of The Patchwork School will be sponsoring a booth to help raise awareness about the number of endangered species on the planet and the human impact on animals. Students ages 5-11 have been researching animals through their class in Humane Education and want to share what they have learned, as well as inspiring others to make a difference.

The gifted and talented 5th grade student group voted on this as their next inquiry project. They are partnering with the American Lung Association to conduct a Clean Air for schools campaign for our school. The young adults in the Left Hand Outdoor Challenge are focusing on promoting composting by restaurants, school and hospital cafeterias. Their booth will promote awareness of erosion and how to rebuild soil health.

Participants will need to tell what the effect on the environment is. (If they don't know, we will inform them.) Students will also perform follow-along dances and have the audience participate in 15 minutes of movement and take their heart rate before and after to see the effect of exercising on their heart.

The Longmont Youth Council will make an art display made out of empty cans and water bottles to show how the community can recycle to make creative art pieces. We hope to encourage others to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

24. Jamestown Elementary and Green Girl Recycling: Small Electronics & Writing Instrument Recycling
We will be providing collection for both small electronics and writing instruments at our booth. We will have education about why we are recycling electronics and writing instruments.
- Small electronics: if you can carry it, we can recycle it. For example: cell phones, small radios, small speakers, keyboards, mice, hand held devices.
- Writing Instruments would include all pencils, pens, markers, sharpie highlighters, permanent markers, mechanical pencils and all caps.

Our booth would like to highlight the contrast between the environmental footprint of a vegetarian versus a regular meat consumer, and propose vegetarian meal options for environmentally conscious people of all ages.

26. Rainbow Scouts: Nature and Scouting for Transgender and Gender Fluid Youth
Visitors will help to imagine and create this new scouting organization. They will be invited to create art to help envision what Rainbow Scouts will do and what they will be like. This art will include painting, poetry, and craft. Nature is healing. It is so important to reach transgender and gender fluid youth, to provide support for them, and to help them understand that they are as natural and true as everybody else. These children face prejudice, and a suicide attempt rate of almost 50%. Nature is healing. Contact with nature can help people deal with human challenges. Even some children who accept their gender designations, may not feel comfortable with the traditional boy and girl scouts. It's time to bring these children and families together, to create a new group!

Visitors to the booth can take their picture with a painted plant background and using a dry erase board can write out what a plant would say if the plant could speak. Visitors can also draw themselves as a plant using paper and colored pencils.

Project Yes will be hosting a booth allowing kids to make recycled journals. We will also be showcasing a tree planing effort that some of our students have organized. We will be alongside Casa de la Esperanza who will be showing a collaborative Earth Day mural painted with Project Yes volunteers and Casa's afterschool program.

29. Silver Creek Leadership Academy: Senior Capstone Projects
Longmont, Colorado
Our booth will feature three Senior Capstone Projects from Silver Creek Leadership Academy. One focusing on sustainable poverty eradication and the unequal distribution of resources with a goal of creating a program to educate youth about the unequal distribution of resources and sustainable poverty eradication. Another on equal rights for women in Africa, with a focus on getting girls equal access to education. The other on getting youth involved in the outdoors and with wildlife, with the goal of starting a 4-H/outdoor type club at a local school and having students appreciate our environment more and feel a call to action to support pro-environment initiatives.
Our booth will feature three Senior Capstone Projects from Silver Creek Leadership Academy. One focusing on sustainable poverty eradication and the unequal distribution of resources with a goal of creating a program to educate youth about the unequal distribution of resources and sustainable poverty eradication. Another on equal rights for women in Africa, with a focus on getting girls equal access to education. The other on getting youth involved in the outdoors and with wildlife, with the goal of starting a 4-H/outdoor type club at a local school and having students appreciate our environment more and feel a call to action to support pro-environment initiatives.
